Amongst several projects of altimetric and planimetric mapping that SLG as developed for portuguese local government authorities, we have selected as an example of best practices regarding the management of geospatial data the municipality of Sabugal. With this local authority, we have developed multiple 1:2000 scale mapping projects - Malcata | Sabugal | Souto - including: ground control points (GCP) collection, aerial triangulation, digital photogrammetric data acquisition, field revision, cartographic editing. All this activities were monitored implementing quality assurance and quality control procedures.

SLG is one of the portuguese leader providers in mapping solutions for railway corridor mapping for transportation planning, land parcel surveying, asset management and a variety of other railways applications. Amongst our clients we would like to highlight RAVE and REFER Engineering, that repeatedly placed their confidence, in the company's technical capabilities in the context of several projects amounting to more than 1500 km of existing or projected railways corridors.
SLG – Sociedade Lusa de Geoengenharia was hired by Águas de Portugal - Timor Leste to provide an airborne laser scanning, aerial imagery, digital terrain model, orthophotos and detail mapping of selected areas for the city of Dili, to support the stage two of the Sanitation and Drainage Masterplan.
With a 4 pts per m2 average point density - approximately 3.000 hectares - the deliverables included: ground control points report, contour map (0.5 meter interval), orthophotos (20 centimeter GSD), digital terrain model grid and complemmentary photogrammetric data acquisition.
High Definition Surveying is a combination of high-accuracy terrestrial based laser scanning and computer technology delivering digital models based on point cloud electronic measurements.
SLG was selected to execute the point cloud acquisition, outlier removal, scans align, smoothing and surface reconstruction (triangle mesh) of a wind tunnel - a tunnellike passage through which air is blown at a known velocity to investigate air flow around an object (as an airplane part or model) placed in the passage - in industrial facilities located in Yeovil, Somerset.
Raster to vector conversion of Cabinda 1:25.000 scale topographic maps ( 7.270 sq km) and Namibe province 1:100.000 scale topographic maps (57.091 sq km).
The activities encompassed: scanned maps - 600 dpi true colour - reprojection and georeferencing; map feature model design; map feature extraction - boundaries and /or skeletons -; topological cleanup and validation.
SLG – Sociedade Lusa de Geoengenharia was hired by the government of S. Tomé e Principe, within the framework of the African Climate Change Adaptation Program designed to assist 20 countries across Africa to incorporate climate change risks and opportunities into their national development processes in order to protect development gains from climate change (United Nations Development Program [DGE-DNP]), to provide GIS implementation services, namely: baseline, risk and vulnerability mapping; data modeling; training and consulting.
The Santana Club, located at the island of São Tomé, request - amongst other tasks, namely boundaries survey and planimetric mapping - a detailed characterization of the existing trees inside the resort. Joint teams from SLG and local staff georeferenced - total station - more then 20.000 trees, including specimen identification, tree height and canopy measurements. The compiled data was processed using a GIS framework and several thematic maps were produced as final output to support the landscape and architecture project.
SLG survey teams have been involved in various cadastral mapping projects. From those, as an illustrative example, we would like to focus on some that took place within the boundaries of the municipality of Paredes, namely: Parque Urbano de Rebordosa | Aguiar de Sousa | Plano de Pormenor de S. Roque.
More then 1000 plots were object of cadastral survey to establish property boundaries, including: existing official land records search, contact landowners or occupants, site reconnaisance, field survey, drafting land boundary plan and compiling landowner personal information
SLG was selected by the General Directorate for Territory (DGT), the government agency responsible for the land planning policy, to develop and upgrade the Online Submission System for Land Management Instruments (OSSLMI) within the context of the National System of Territorial Information.
The project - included: database logical development and physical implementation (Sql Server); user interface design (html5 and css3); backoffice update (ASP development); C# web services retroffiting and upgrade; php and javascript based website (with new large files upload tool).
Co-authors of the Territorial Information Quality Assurance / Control and Territorial Metadata Profile Plan in the role of strategic consultants.
Main goals: streamline informational workflow, comprehensive cost reduction on associated data validation processes, creating indicators (QA/QC), metadata profile for land management and guidelines for quality management procedures.
Our field survey teams, since the inception of SLG, collected georeferenced information for detailed infrastructure mapping of: water supply and distribution network, wastewater collection network and stormwater network.
More then 4.000 km of infrastructure was surveyed to support GIS and engineering projects.
The municipality of Porto acknowledged that the availability of a topographic control network is a relevant instrument to support the new survey projects that take place in the territory managed by this entity. Therefore, SLG was selected to update and enlarge a survey control network with a total amount of 260 survey marks and monuments. Our engineers submitted a proposal containing the updated network configuration and marks location. After our field survey teams concluded the materialization and observation tasks, the data was calculated and local geoid adjustments established.
SLG was selected to execute topographic survey in Dolce Vita Tejo Shopping Mall (1:500 scale).
SLG was selected to execute topographic surveys in wastewater treatment plants of Reguengos, Redondo e Borba (1:500 scale).
Taking advantage of SLG expertise in web based solutions with opensource resources, in the context of a project for the Instituto Maritimo e Portuário de Angola, it was developed an application to support the collection and management of data pertaining the assets inventory.
Php and Javascript based solution with Sql Server Express database support.
SINERGIC - This project, coordinated by DGT, aims to enable the existence of land registration in Portugal, as a set of exhaustive data, methodical and updated, characterization and identifier of existing properties in the country, establishing itself as an essential tool for policy spatial planning, environment, economic, taxes and public works.
The integrated set of applications developed by SLG in 2014, supports the various phases underlying the development of a large scale cadastral operation, including: 50 front office facilities, 30 surveyor teams , more than 100,000 records and plots submitted .
All this using PHP, Javascript, Postgresql, Postgis and Quantum GIS.
SLG was selected to execute the point cloud acquisition - 19 scans - , ground control points observation, outlier removal, cloud registration, smoothing and surface reconstruction (triangle mesh) of wastewater treatment plant of Beirolas. Our department of digital photogrammetry produced a contour map (0.20 m interval) and a digital terrain model in grid format.
SLG expertise in the water distribution, sewage and storm water collection systems (WSS) sector has been challenged and proved in multiple projects, carrying out the following activities: requirements analysis, benefit/cost analysis, system design, system acquisition, database design, infrastructure survey, data conversion services, project management, quality assurance, training, system implementation, design of logical and physical data models, business processes and data flows, work order management system, street centerline/address range database, integration analysis between customer billing - GIS.
